Side Jobs for Extra Cash

Let’s say you are working hard to pay off your debts and you want to earn some extra cash on evenings or weekends. You can do a side job. This doesn’t involve quitting your day job. The gig economy is full of side jobs.

You should however focus on your main job to get raises, promotions and bonuses. This is really your rake that brings in the money you get to invest.

Things to keep in mind

  • The extra income is taxable at your normal tax rate
  • More work will make you tired so don’t overdo it so that it makes you perform poorly at your day job
  • You may need a car for some of these

Driver jobs if you have a car: very flexible hours

  • Drive for Uber
  • Drive for Lyft
  • Deliver for Uber Eats
  • Deliver meals via an app such as Doordash or Postmates
  • Deliver Pizzas

Work in retail: can be less flexible due to shift timing

  • Target, Wal-Mart, Grocery Store, Mall stores

Work in Food Service: free food as a perk

  • Work as a barista making coffee at say Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts
  • Wait tables
  • Wash dishes, bus tables
  • Bartend if you are qualified
  • Flip Big Macs and Whoppers

Work apps can make you money doing odd jobs

  • Task Rabbit

Other ways to make money

  • Rent out your place on Air bnb
  • Rent out your parking space or a space in your driveway if you live in the city. You could make a $100 per month.
  • Rent out your condo on AirBnb during graduation weekend.
