So we have talked about using glutathione specifically liposomal glutathione to detoxify mercury from the body and brain. I found an interesting article that supports some key findings.
- Neurons are not able to detoxify themselves as they do not produce their own glutathione
- They instead rely on the glial cells nearby to produce so that they can import it
- The mercury and other heavy metal detox systems can quickly become overwhelmed by excess toxin via cascading effect which reduces detoxifying enzyme production.
- This leads to a vicious downward spiral where toxin levels get higher and higher
- This explains why the half life of mercury is so long in the brain but less long in the body
- Here is the article.
So what does this mean for us? It means that we will need to import glutathione and its precursors to kick start this detoxification system and break the vicious cycle once the source of the mercury has been removed (dental fillings, tainted fish consumption etc). How do we do this?
- Take liposomal glutathione and get it into the bloodstream and some should make it ways into the brain to the neurons to bind with the toxic metals. We want it to dislodge any mercury and any other toxic metals out of the brain and into the body. Why liposomal? Because it is the only kind that can be absorbed without being broken down in the stomach.
- Drink whey protein occasionally along with normal protein to provide the raw material for detox enzymes. Specifically we want sulfur containing amino acids to mop up the toxins that glutathione releases and the push them out of the body once they are out of the brain.
- Then slowly continue to pull the toxin out and excrete it until it is gone
